Virex® Virus Update 08_01_98 is part of Dr Solomon's ongoing commitment to deliver the best virus protection available. This update detects and removes 17 new Word macro viruses and one new Excel macro virus.
Please Note:
If Virex detects an AutoStart worm on your Macintosh, it is very important that you restart your system with extensions disabled (hold down the shift key while restarting) and rescan with the Virex Application. This will disable the worm and allow its files to be removed. If you do not do this, the worm will be running in memory, preventing complete removal. Alternatively, restart your system after ensuring that the Virex Control Panel is set to load either "First" or "Alphabetically", and the "Scan Files When Opened" feature is enabled. Virex will detect and remove the worm as it attempts to launch at startup.
Be sure to scan all disks that may have been used on an infected computer. Since you may have to re-enable extensions to mount certain kinds of disks, disable the CD-ROM AutoPlay option in the Quicktime Settings Control Panel. This will prevent reinfection from an infected disk when it is inserted or mounted for scanning by Virex. The Virex Control Panel's "Scan Files When Opened" feature will also prevent reinfection from mounting infected disks, even if the QuickTime AutoPlay option is enabled.
